Pflugerville Pflamingos

We are a year-round team focused on youth fitness, fun, and friendly competition, while developing a lifelong love of swimming!

It’s summer, which means it’s Piranhas (Summer League) season — and if you’ve been watching the meets, you may have noticed a few things: Pflamingo swimmers winning heats, topping heat sheets, earning spots at Invitationals, and setting summer league records. That’s not a coincidence. That’s what year-round training does.

We’re currently in our summer break for most groups,

with long-course training running for our advanced Plus and Gold swimmers.

We are not enrolling new swimmers at this time.

New swimmer evaluations will be held in mid-August, when we kick off our 2026-27 season. Evaluations aren’t tryouts in the traditional sense — they’re how we determine the best training group fit for each swimmer. Space in each group is limited.

Want to be on the list when sign-up details go out in mid-July? Reach out to Coach Jess at pflamingoswimming@gmail.com.

Pflamingo Swimming is led by Coach Michael Poropat and his wife, Coach Jess — both lifelong swimmers and experienced coaches — the team trains at Gilleland Park Pool from mid-August through the end of April.

We offer multiple training groups for swimmers in Kindergarten through high school, grouped by age and skill level.

Swimmers have opportunities to race throughout the season, including our new monthly “Block Party” meets held right at our home pool.

Evaluations for new swimmers will take place in mid-August, with sign-up information going out in mid-July.

To get on the email list for evaluation details, please reach out to Coach Jess at pflamingoswimming@gmail.com.

Interested in joining the Pflamingos for the 2026-27 season?

We are a year round swim team focused on fitness and fun. Our purpose is to complement the summer swim league, and also bridge the gap between the lessons program and high school swimming - therefore, we are offering practices for children in Elementary School and Middle School, K-8th grade, and high school recreational swimmers. We take a break all of May, offer elite training to our Plus and Gold groups in June and July, and offer full programming once school starts in mid-August.

Practices are held at Gilleland Creek Park Pool, 700 N. Railroad Ave, Monday through Thursday, with some Saturdays. Training groups are organized by age and skill level — find details on the Training Groups page.

New swimmer evaluations open in mid-August. To get on the notification list, contact Coach Jess at pflamingoswimming@gmail.com or fill out the form below. Space is limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pflamingo is an 8.5-month program running from mid-August through the end of April. During the summer, we encourage swimmers to participate in summer league — many of our athletes swim with the Pflugerville Piranhas. Our advanced Plus and Gold groups continue with long-course training over the summer, but we do not enroll new swimmers during this period. New swimmer evaluations are held each August ahead of the fall season launch.

We typically attend at least one USA Sanctioned away swim meet per month, and host our own "Block Parties" monthly. Participation in competition is encouraged, but not required. Every team member must be registered with USA Swimming, regardless of meet participation, which carries a fee.

Practices are held Monday-Thursday 4:45-8pm and some Saturdays at Gilleland Pool. See Program Group Descriptions for times by group.

We require all children signing up to be able to comfortably swim one length of a 25 meter pool, unassisted and without stopping. The swimmer should also be able to kick on their back for a length of the pool. We teach all 4 strokes.

Registration fees vary depending on the skill level and amount of practice time available. Depending on the age of the swimmer and skill level, monthly registration costs range from $130 to $190 per child. In addition, there is a required USA Swimming registration fee and meet fees.

Yep, yes we do. The pool is heated, typically around 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit during the colder months. We will not have practice if the weather dips below freezing, but otherwise, we swim!
